RECAP: Bulldogs Complete Perfect Weekend With 4-0 Win Over Southwest Baptist

Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, MO. – A dominating performance capped off a perfect 2-0 opening weekend for the Truman Women's Soccer team as they dealt Southwest Baptist University a 4-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon at the Truman Soccer Park.

The Bulldogs pelted 22 shots with 15 on goal while the Bearcats managed nine shot attempts with four on net. Truman had 13 corner kicks to SBU's two.

Hanna Liljegren scored her second goal of the weekend early in the first half to give the Bulldogs the lead. She took a cross from the left sideline by Hanna Burke and touched it past keeper Ashlyn Gibbs in the 18th minute for the lead.

Katie Vollmer scored Truman's next two goals. The freshman scored on a shot from 20 yards out in the 39th minute and Burke added another helper in the 67th minute when Vollmer found herself on the receiving end of a pass to put the ball in the net for goal number two.

Just prior to that third goal, SBU's Raegan Edwards had three golden chances all within two minutes. Edwards had a shot blocked by a diving Camryn Sprague. On the ensuing corner kick, Edwards teed one up from the 18-yardline that was stopped by Beth Hopwood. A few seconds later, Edwards rang one off the crossbar that dropped straight down before being cleared away by the Bulldogs.

Jen Seithel added a late goal off a corner kick from Kacie Trueman and touched by Hanna Hickey in the 87th minute.

It was the second straight shutout by Hopwood and the Truman defense.

Truman will play two non-conference matches next weekend. The Bulldogs head to Northwest Missouri State on Friday and Upper Iowa University on Sunday.
