BOLIVAR, Mo.—Following a loss to Drury Friday night, the Truman Volleyball team rebounded Saturday with a commanding 3-0 win (25-23, 25-14, 25-17) over Southwest Baptist to pick up their tenth win of the season. Jocelynn Livingston tied a career high with 17 kills, which she had last season against Arkansas Tech. Overall the team hit .337 in the match, their season high.
Opening the first set, the teams seesawed back and forth. From an 11-11 tie, the Bearcats reeled off a 6-0 run to take a 17-11 lead. Truman fought back, but each time they would get close SBU would push back. It would not be until the set was 24-23 that Truman would take their first lead—capping off an 8-2 run to finally lead. TSU took the set following an error from the Bearcats, as Livingston racked up seven kills in the set as the team hit .250.
Livingston racked up three kills early in the second set to help Truman jump out to a quick 8-3 advantage. After a timeout from SBU, Truman would continue to expand their lead to as many as eight at 14-6. A 5-1 run from SBU quickly got the hosts back into it, but Truman closed the set on a 10-3 run that gave the Bulldogs the set—hitting .407 in the set.
Much like the first set, the third set began with the two teams neck and neck. From a 5-5 tie, Ellie Kaat racked up three kills in a 5-1 run that gave Truman a 10-6 lead. The Bulldogs would not trail again, racking up 16 kills with a .387 hitting percentage to finish off SBU.
Truman picked up their tenth win of the season, and will search for number 11 as take the court again at home this coming Friday against William Jewell at 7 p.m.
