SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –
Sloane Totta and
Katey Klucking both scored in double-figures to lead the Truman Women's Basketball team to a 67-52 win over Northern Michigan on Friday evening. The Bulldogs return to the O'Reilly Family Events Center on the Drury University campus on Saturday night for a showdown with the University of Central Missouri.
Â
The Bulldogs (4-1) outscored the travel weary Wildcats (3-4) 22-11 in the first quarter including a 14-3 run over the final five minutes of the opening period. Northern Michigan endured an 18-hour travel day due to flight problems coming to Springfield for the tournament.
Â
Truman kept the pressure on in the second and a
Tiffany Davenport three-pointer in the final minute of the half gave Truman their largest lead of 18 points at 40-22. The Bulldogs extended the advantage out to as many as 21 on one of four Klucking three-pointers on the evening at 60-39 midway through the fourth quarter.
Â
Klucking was 4-of-7 from range for 12 points while Totta scored 13 on three triples and two other baskets.
Katie Jaseckas led the rebounding charge with nine and Davenport finished with a high of five assists.
Â
The Bulldogs shot 39.7% for the game and made 12-of-30 three-pointers. Northern Michigan got 16 points and 11 rebounds from Erin Honkala but shot 34% as a team and 7-of-21 from outside.
Â
Truman will take on former MIAA foe and 2018 NCAA Division II champion Central Missouri as the nightcap on Saturday. The two teams last met in 2013. The Jennies had a chance to defeat #1 Drury on their home court in the earlier game on Friday but a late forced turnover that resulted in a postgame technical foul gave the Lade Panthers a 57-54 win over Central.
