RECAP: Truman Women Fall To Central Missouri 70-63

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Central Missouri used a mid-third quarter burst and was able to hold off the Truman Women's Basketball team 70-63 on Saturday night. The Bulldogs open up Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Tuesday at home against Quincy starting at 5:30 p.m.

Sloane Totta scored 16 points to lead Truman (4-2) and Hannah Belanger added 12. However 17 turnovers with a 15-0 margin on points off of turnovers against the Bulldogs contributed to the loss.

The Jennies (4-3) were led by Megan Staggs' 20 points.

It was a see-saw affair in the first half with Central leading by five in the first quarter and Truman going up by six at 29-23 following a pair of three pointers from Belanger and some free throws from Makenzie Bray with 1:46 before half.

The game was tied seven times but the eighth and final lead change occurred with 5:45 to go in the third quarter when Central began a 15-3 push. The key sequence came at the end of the third quarter. Central got their first double-digit lead when as time was winding down, an entry pass was deflected off a pair of Truman defenders out to Morgan Fleming, who buried the wing triple as time expired to put UCM up 48-38.

Truman clawed back late in the fourth. Totta knocked down a three with 2:49 to left to trim the lead back down to seven points and Bray made a pair of free throws with 1:15 to go to pull Truman back to within five.

Totta hit another three with 50 seconds remaining to bring Truman to four points at 63-59. However UCM would hit seven of eight free throws down the stretch to hold off Truman. For game, Central was 17-of-20 from the line while Truman was only eight of nine.
