RECAP: Bulldogs Bid To Win Series Falls Short Against #12 Quincy

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Truman's bid to knock off and win the GLVC series over #12 Quincy came up short on Tuesday as the Hawks held on for a 9-5 victory in the rubber game.
 
The teams split the first two games of the series last week in Quincy. The Hawks jumped in front 3-0 in the third before Adam Stolley hit his second home run in three games to cut the lead to 3-1. The Hawks tacked on three more in the fourth and one in the sixth to go up 7-1.
 
The eighth inning was when Truman mounted a comeback. A leadoff walk, followed by a hit batsman and another free pass loaded the bases with no outs. Steven Bradbury hit the ball toward short and the play was to third for the force but an errant throw allowed two runners to cross. Jack Goodwin then brought in another run when he reached after an error pulled the first baseman off the bag.
 
Kory Carter dropped a blooping single to right field scoring Bradbury which cut the lead to 7-5.
 
With one out and two on, Stolley came back to the plate. After his home run, he drove a ball to the track in right center field then in his previous plate appearance had a home run taken away when Lance Logsdon reached over the fence to pull the ball back in the park. Stolley drew a walk to reload the bases.
 
Mason King popped into an infield fly and Reid Wilson grounded into a fielder's choice to end the threat.
 
Quincy would tack on a pair of insurance runs in the ninth.
 
Rian Markes fell to 0-5 after going five-plus innings for Truman.
 
Next up for the Bulldogs is a road trip to Louisville, Kentucky and a weekend conference series with Bellarmine. The three-game set is scheduled to start on Saturday at noon eastern.
