RECAP: Bulldogs 2-0 After 35-12 Victory Over Wayne State

Box Score
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – A 24-point second quarter outburst, including two touchdowns within 11 seconds propelled the Truman Bulldogs to 2-0 on the season following a decisive 35-12 victory over the Wayne (Mich.) State Warriors on Saturday afternoon.

Bulldog Josh Scheiderer connected on a 28-yard field goal for the only scoring in the first quarter.

The Warriors gambled on fourth down at midfield but the pass from Dakota Kupp fell incomplete. Truman took over and Jaden Barr engineered a nine-play, 50 yard scoring drive finding Spencer Newell on third and seven from the WSU nine yard line for the touchdown.

On the ensuing kickoff, Jordan Siegel stripped returner Kyle Lewis at the 28 yard line and raced home for the score to put Truman up 17-0 in a matter of 11 seconds between scoring plays.

More turnover problems plagued Wayne on their next offensive play. Eric Yakle forced a fumble of DeOntay Moffett and Bennett Swope recovered at the Warrior six. Truman couldn't punch it in but settled for a 19-yard field goal from Scheiderer and a 27-0 lead.

Ben Watson picked off Kupp early in the third quarter and set Truman up at the WSU nine. Barr would power in from four yards out for the touchdown. The extra point was initially blocked but in the scramble Camden Sprouse found the ball and crossed the goal line for the two-point conversion.

The Warriors would score with 55 seconds left in the third quarter on a three-yard run by James Hill and then again on a four-yard run by King Sanders with 3:16 left to play. Both times the two-point tries were denied.
