Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – A last second shot was blocked away and the visitors from Lewis handed the Truman Bulldogs their first blemish in conference 80-79 on Saturday afternoon in Pershing Arena.

Truman (10-4; 6-1 GLVC) raced out of the gate for an 11-2 lead on three, three-pointers by Katey Klucking, Hannah Belanger and Maddie Re.

The visitors stormed back with a 14-4 run at the end of the first and start of the second to take their first lead of the game.

The Bulldogs counterpunched with 13 straight and had their largest lead of 10 points at 41-31 with 3:46 to play in the first half.

The third quarter was all Lewis. The Flyers (10-5; 7-0 GLVC) outscored Truman 24-8 and led 63-53 after three quarters.

The lead swelled to as many as 12 with 3:34 to play before Truman mounted a charge.

Klucking knocked down a pair of three pointers sandwiched between some free throws to close the gap down to three at 76-73 with 1:40 to go.

The Flyers had made their first 18 free throws in the game before Stephanie Hart missed a pair with 51 seconds showing and Lewis up by five. After a miss from three by Sloane Totta, Truman retained possession and Dajae Black fouled Klucking with 39 seconds left. She would hit one of two but Katie Jaseckas nabbed the offensive board on the second miss and was fouled.

Jaseckas couldn't convert from the line and Hinders made one of two to push the lead back to two possessions at five with 29 seconds remaining.

Jaseckas knocked down a jumper on the Bulldogs next trip and Hinders again went 1-of-2 at the stripe to give Lewis a four-point lead with 13 seconds on the clock. Klucking dialed three again and Truman trailed by only one with eight showing.

Kaitlyn Williams missed both free throws and Truman swept up the floor without a timeout.  Totta passed off to Re who found Klucking at the right 45 for a three-pointer at the buzzer but Morgan Glatczak swatted the ball away to preserve the win and keep Lewis undefeated in conference.

After making their first 18 free throws, Lewis in the final minute went just 2-of-8.

Klucking led the Truman scorers with 21 points followed by Jaseckas' 19 and 11 apiece from Belanger and Re. Re added 11 rebounds for the double-double.

Hinders paced the Flyers with 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting and Williams added 20 with eight assists.

The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround and will be on the road for three games in six days. The trip begins with the second meeting with Quincy University on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Truman downed the Lady Hawks 74-54 back on December 3 in Kirksville. Quincy defeated Illinois Springfield 78-72.
