SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—In the middle of a battle at the top of the GLVC, the Truman Men's Basketball team stumbled as they fell to the Drury Panthers, winners of six straight coming into the night. Truman just never got it going as the Panthers defended their home court 71-52.
Alex McQuinn led the Bulldogs in points scored with 14, the only Bulldog to reach double figures. He also set a new career high with five blocked shots. Next up were Turner Scott and Brodric Thomas—each with nine points. Thomas led the way with six rebounds, while Hunter Strait and Cade McKnight each grabbed five.
Truman got on the board first with a free throw from McKnight, and after that Drury scored ten straight points and never trailed again. The Panthers got up to a double digit lead, and after holding a comfortable lead for the most of the half, Truman made a late run to get back in it. With the score 26-16, Truman scored six straight to close the gap to four. McQuinn scored four points and Thomas scored the next two from the foul line to make it 26-22 with 5:42 left in the half. But the Bulldogs did not score again the rest of the half and Drury took a 39-22 lead into intermission.
In the second half the Bulldogs could not cut into the lead until the last few minutes when the outcome had been decided.
The Bulldogs are now tied with Missouri-St. Louis atop the GLVC with a 13-4 record in conference and are trailed very closely by Indianapolis, Southern Indiana and Southwest Baptist; each at 12-5. Saturday's clash between Truman and SBU is crucial for the GLVC standings, and with a win the Bulldogs would go undefeated at Pershing this season. Tip off is at 3 PM.
