ROLLA, Mo.—The Truman Men's Basketball team finished the regular season with a bang as they defeated Missouri S&T 89-67 and finished tied with Missouri-St. Louis for the GLVC regular season championship. Brodric Thomas led the way with 34 points, one shy of his career best.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 lead with a layup from Hunter Strait and then back to back treys from Thomas. From there S&T went on a 13-6 run to pull within one point at 14-13 at the 13:26 mark. Over the next 2:23, the Bulldogs went on an 11-2 run with Thomas scoring all 11 points for Truman, including three three-pointers. Thomas drained seven threes in the game, a career high.
After Truman expanded their lead to double digits, they were not really threatened the rest of the half and took a 38-27 lead into the break.
In the second half, Truman blew the game open; leading by as many as 29. The Miners never threatened the Bulldogs and Truman cruised to a 22 point win to seal their first regular season title—split with Missouri-St. Louis by virtue of the Tritons win over Illinois Springfield this afternoon.
Turner Scott was second with 16 points, Strait scored 13 and Dylan Peeters tallied ten. With ten points and nine rebounds, he was just one board short of a second straight double-double.
Despite sharing the conference regular season title, the Bulldogs will be the three seed in the GLVC Tournament next week. Their first matchup will be against six seeded Rockhurst on Friday at 6 PM in Edwardsville, Ill.
