RECAP: Bulldogs Take Down Greyhounds, Move on to GLVC Final

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—The Truman Men's Basketball team matched up with Indianapolis on Saturday in the GLVC Tournament semifinals and took down the Greyhounds 88-77, avenging a loss at UINDY earlier this year. Brodric Thomas went off for 32 points, his fourth thirty point game of the season. With this win, the Bulldogs advance to the final tomorrow afternoon against top seeded Missouri-St. Louis, a matchup of the two best records in the GLVC this season.

The first few minutes did not feature any scoring, until UINDY got the first bucket at the 17:07 mark of the first half. Truman eventually took their first lead when Thomas completed a three point play to make it 9-8 at the 13:53 mark of the half. In the middle part of the half, the teams went back and forth giving and taking the lead. With 8:07 to go in the half, the Greyhounds held a 24-18 lead, but Truman went on a 8-0 run to take back the lead, started by Dylan Peeters and then six straight points by Mark Rogers. At 1:59 in the half, Truman took back the lead with a bucket from Cade McKnight, and then held the lead for the rest of the half—taking a 43-38 lead into the locker room. The half featured nine ties and nine lead changes.

In the second half, UINDY would not go down easy. With 16:09 to go, the Greyhounds had pulled within one at 51-50. From there, an 8-0 stretch by Truman resolidified the lead at nine. Turner Scott got it started with a layup and then back to back threes from Hunter Strait and then Thomas. UINDY made another push but Truman fended them off once again, and then expanded their lead to double digits at 68-58 with 8:23 to go. The Greyhounds pulled back within five at 77-72 with 4:12 to go, trying to set up another dramatic finish.

Cade McKnight completed a three point play and Thomas drained a three pointer to move the lead back up to ten with 1:36 to go, effectively clinching the game. Truman ultimately saw out the rest of the game and won by 11 points to secure a place in tomorrow's afternoon's championship game.

Thomas had his third double-double of the season with 32 points and 14 rebounds. McKnight had 20 while Scott had 13 and Peeters had ten.
