RECAP: Bulldogs Rally to Take Series Finale from Greyhounds

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—After dropping two against Indianapolis to open their home season on Saturday, the Truman Baseball team came from behind with a three run eighth inning to down the Greyhounds 4-3. Tyler Blackington picked up his second win of the season (2-0) and Nick Draheim picked up his second save. Johnny Irish (0-1) took the loss for the Greyhounds.

The Bulldogs got on the board first in the bottom of the third. Kevin Donohue opened the inning with a walk, then Brendan Kelly followed with a sacrifice to move Donohue to second. Steven Bradbury came up for his second at bat and hit an RBI single into center field, bringing Donohue in. Bradbury stole second then moved to third on a groundout but the Bulldogs could not get him in.

Starting in the sixth, UINDY got one run in three straight innings. Justyn Eichbaum singled through the left side to bring in John Carpinelli to tie the game, then in the seventh Ryan Simons singled to short, then moved to second on a groundout then came in on a single by Alex Vela to left. In the eighth Hunter Waning was hit by a pitch to start the inning, then moved to second on a groundout. Ty Williams singled to center to bring Waning in and made it 3-1.

Donohue led off the bottom of the eighth. He walked then moved to second on a wild pitch. Irish came in for Myc Witty, then walked Kelly. Bradbury laid down a great bunt down the third base line to move the runners to second and third even though he was out at first. Holden Missey grounded out for the second out of the inning. Brendan Larkin was hit to load the bases for Evan Kayser. Kayser hit a ground ball but reached on an error, which brought Donohue in. Trailing 3-2, Kory Carter pinch ran for Larkin at second, representing the winning run.

Dakota Spicer came up next and reached on an error by the shortstop. Kelly came in to score and the error allowed Carter the chance to come in and beat the play at the plate to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead. Nick Draheim came in for the top of the ninth and secured his second save with a three up, three down top of the ninth.

Holden Missey started the game and threw six innings, allowing one run on five hits. Kayser had two hits while Spicer had two RBIs to lead the Bulldogs. Missey and Kayser each had four hits on the weekend, with two in the opener.

The Bulldogs will be back in action this coming weekend at Missouri-St. Louis with a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon and then a single game Sunday at noon.
