RECAP: Clutch Free Throw Shooting Down Stretch Lift Bulldogs To 10th Win

LEBANON, Ill. – The Truman State women scored their final 10 points from the free throw line and the Bulldogs held on for a gritty 68-65 win over the McKendree Bearcats on Thursday night. Truman improved to 10-2 with the win.
 
Hannah Belanger scored 25 points with 16 in the first half and nine in the deciding quarter for Truman State. Belanger knocked down four triples and was 7-of-7 from the charity stripe including six in the final 2:04.
 
The game was tied at 12 after the first quarter as the Bulldogs were plagued with seven turnovers in the first 10 minutes. 
 
The Bulldogs led by six at half (36-30) and extended the lead out to nine on a three-pointer by Katey Klucking early in the third. However, Truman would only score six points the rest of the quarter and the teams headed to the fourth tied at 45 apiece.
 
Klucking dialed three again in the fourth after the Bearcats took a 50-48 lead with seven minutes to go to put Truman back on top.
 
The game would be tied at 58 following a Jenna Krause three-pointer with 3:40 to play.
 
Klucking then knocked down the first of what would be 10 straight free throw attempts by the Bulldogs to close the game. McKendree would go 1-of-5 from the field in the final three minutes with only a Sydney Diekhoff three-pointer breaking the trend with one second left. 
 
Klucking finished with 13 points and Katie Jaseckas notched her fifth double-double in her last six games and seventh overall with 10 points and 13 boards. 
 
The Bulldogs finished shooting 38% for the game, hit 9-of-25 from range and were 17-of-20 (85%) from the foul line.
 
McKendree got 17 points from Diekhoff and 14 points on four triples by Christy Fortune. The Bearcats dropped to 4-9 on the season.
 
It was the sixth straight victory for Truman and set up a clash on Saturday with two, 10-win teams in Southern Indiana and the Bulldogs. USI downed Truman 83-78 in Pershing Arena back on January 3rd. Tip time is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Evansville.
