Men’s Soccer Draws 2-2 at SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo.—The Truman Men's Soccer team picked up their fourth point of the season on Friday with a 2-2 draw at Southwest Baptist. Collin McDonough got his second goal of the season with a first half strike that put the Bulldogs up 1-0 at intermission and Thomas Weber picked up his first career goal in the second half to make it 2-1 Bulldogs, but ultimately the sides would share the points.

Truman had a quick opportunity right from the get go as Jack Knust took the game's first shot just 19 seconds in, but it missed wide to the right. The Bulldogs had plenty of early pressure with Weber, Mac Knudsen and Luke Payne all getting shots in the first 20 minutes. However, the first shot on goal did not come until the 38th minute when McDonough beat the Bearcats keeper low left to put the first score on the board, Max Sengl picked up the assist.

The first shot of the second half came in the 49th minute, when Pierre Barilly of SBU evened the match with a goal to the low right of the cage. But just 88 seconds later Weber came through of the Bulldogs with a shot to the low left that gave Truman the lead again at 2-1. But a wide open game took another turn when just over two minutes later Tumekie Blackwood evened things or SBU with a goal to the lower right of the net. In the 58th minute Knudsen put a shot low right, but Willy Lusansu saved it for the Bearcats to keep it 2-2. Shortly after, Justin Olwig made his first save for the Bulldogs as he stopped Isaiah Waddy low center. A wide open game suddenly calmed down most of the second half, with another shot on goal not coming until the 86th minute when Knust was stopped low center by Lusansu.

Sengl had the first shot on goal of the extra session just 27 seconds in, but he was stopped low right. SBU tried to counter the other way but Olwig stopped Barilly high right to keep the game going. In the late stages of the first session, Newton had a chance to end it for the Bulldogs but he was stopped on the high right side of the goal.

Neither keeper was called on to make a save in the second overtime session, both Newton and McDonough had shots for the Bulldogs that were either blocked or wide as the game ended in a draw.

Truman outshot the Bearcats 20-13 and had six shots on goal to SBU's five. The Bulldogs will be on the road for the season finale this Sunday as they take on Rockhurst at 2:30 p.m.
