KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Truman Women's Soccer team will head into the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference postseason tournament with the longest active winning streak after they downed the Rockhurst Hawks 2-0 in the regular season finale on Sunday.
The match was scoreless for the first half and the first 25 minutes into the second half. The Bulldogs drew first blood when Chance Douglass took possession about 30 yards out. Douglass moved right then cut back toward the middle of the field before sliding a pass to a cutting Oliva Morris. The Truman freshman took one dribble then beat the Hawks keeper on her left for the 1-0 lead. It was Morris' second goal of the season and fifth assist for Douglass.
With nine minutes left, Anna Meyer provided the insurance as she teed on up from outside the 18-yard box that found the top corner of the net. The play developed off a deep throw in by the Hawks that Truman gained possession of. Meyer dribbled in from midfield and passed the ball over to Izzy Heintz. She in took a couple of steps then crossed it back over to Meyer for the drive and goal. It was Meyer's first goal of the season.
Beth Hopwood made a pair of saves, both in the first half to record the shutout.
Truman has now won five straight, the longest active streak in the GLVC as the postseason tournament is set to begin with a quarterfinal match next Sunday. The Bulldogs will be the third seed in the tournament and will host Missouri S&T at the Truman Soccer Park. Match time will be 1 p.m. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in Rolla back on September 19.
This will be the ninth straight GLVC tournament for Truman and the sixth time the Bulldogs will host a quarterfinal contest.
