Bulldogs; Schrader Blast McKendree For Eighth Win Of The Season, 44-13

LEBANON, Ill. – Cody Schrader rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns and Nolan Hair completed 11-of-17 passes for two more touchdowns in the Bulldogs 44-13 romp over McKendree (Ill.) University on Saturday to improve to 8-2 on the season.

The Bulldogs (8-2/4-2 GLVC) opened the scoring on a four-play, 38-yard drive with Hair connecting with Matt Hall on a seven-yard pass with 7:55 to play in the first quarter.

Schrader would score the next two touchdowns on the ground; a 12-yard run that capped a 10-play, 88-yard possession and a one-yard score after Hair hit Jacob Morris on a 49-yard pass to put the ball at the one.

McKendree (4-6/3-3 GLVC) scored on their next possession with a 23-yard scamper by Narkel Leflore but the extra point missed so Truman led 21-6 midway through the second.

Truman answered immediately with Schrader rushing for 41 yards on four straight plays and finally scoring from five yards out to make it 27-6.

Things got a little dicey for the Bulldogs at the end of the half. Turner Pullen heaved a 32-yard pass into the endzone that was caught by Jordan Sprycha on the last play of the half to cut the lead to 27-13 but the Truman defense forced a punt as the Bearcats had the first possession out of the halftime break.

The Truman defense would shutout the high-scoring McKendree offense in the second half while adding a 35-yard touchdown run by Jaylen Jefferson, an 8-yard pass from Hair to Schrader and a 25-yard field goal by Josh Scheiderer.

McKendree came into the game leading the league in conference games in total offense at 523 per game and was third in rushing offense at 190. Truman held the Bearcats to just 329 yards overall and a trifling 40 net rushing yards on 16 attempts.

The Bulldogs topped 40 points for the third straight game and finished with 474 yards of offense and 309 rushing yards. Jefferson added 59 on five carries and Hair gained 23 on four attempts.

Schrader vaulted into second place on Truman's single-season rushing list. Schrader sits at 1,653 yards he leapfrogged over five positions on the list, including two seasons by the all-time career leader Jarrett Anderson.

His three rushing scores also moved him into second place in the single-season rankings with 21, six back of Anderson.

The Bulldogs have won eight games for the third time in five full seasons of play.

Next Saturday, Truman will host nemesis Indianapolis for Senior Day at Stokes Stadium. The Greyhounds and Bulldogs are tied for second in the GLVC standings and both teams feature the top running backs and rushing offenses in the nation while also boasting the top rushing defenses in the country. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. with senior festivities starting around 11:30 a.m.
