KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women's Soccer team broke out of a three-match losing streak with a 2-0 win over Lewis University on Sunday afternoon at home.
Cassidy Gann scored her first Bulldog goal off a free kick from
Kate Peterson. On the restart, Peterson knocked the ball from 35 yards out toward the net and Gann was able to knock it home in one swoop for the 1-0 lead in the 42
nd minute.
The wild wind played a part in the second Truman goal. With the wind blowing across the field at over 20 miles per hour, a Lewis defender tried to knock a ball back toward the keeper and the wind pushed it away and into the net for an own goal five minutes into the second half.
That is all Truman would need as the dominated the stats with a 13-3 advantage on shots with a 9-1 tilt for those placed on goal.
Beth Hopwood made just one save in the second half to record the shutout.
Truman will play their next three matches on the road starting on Friday at the University of Illinois Springfield. The match will be played a 1 p.m. at the SLSG Soccer Fields in Collinsville, Illinois.
