RECAP: Bulldogs Come Up Short at Panthers in Spring Finale

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--The Truman Men's Soccer team fell in their final game of the shortened spring season 4-2 against Drury Friday night. Ian McCluskey and Felipe Campos each scored in the second half, but it was not enough to make up the gap as the Panthers had struck very quickly in the game.

In just the second minute, Drury got on the board. Just past the ten minute mark, Mac Knudsen recorded the first Bulldog shot on goal but Drury keeper Yannick Lamers kept it out of the net. In the 16th minute, Drury grabbed their second goal. In the 19th minute, it looked like they may grab their third but Julian Echeverri was up to the task. Knudsen tallied the only other shot on goal from the Bulldogs in the first half. Drury went into intermission up 2-0.

Just four minutes into the second half, Drury made it 3-0. The frenzied action that had been happening until this point slowed down in the second half, as neither team would get on the board until after the 80th minute. Drury got their fourth in the 85th minute, but in his final game Ian McCluskey got the first goal for the Bulldogs in the 88th minute. Jack Knust picked up the assist. In the final minute of the game, Felipe Campos picked up the second Bulldog goal on a penalty shot.

The shortened campaign comes to an end for the Bulldogs, but with many new freshman getting their first action on the college level this spring; good things lay ahead for this young squad. Sam Newton was second in goals with three and tied with Andy Brennan for the team lead in points with eight. George Francis V led the team in minutes played. With only two players leaving for graduation, this team will return most of its young core in the fall.
