KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Truman Women's Soccer team made two first half goals stand up in a 2-0 win over Maryville University on Friday afternoon.
Cassidy Gann played a ball from midfield that slipped Chance Douglass past the defense, she made a defender miss and then beat the keeper in the top corner for a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the match.
Five minutes later, Douglass crossed it in from the right and Faith Branson was waiting to bank it home for a 2-0 Bulldog advantage.
Truman had a 4-1 advantage on shot on net.
At halftime, a lightning strike was detected within the 8-mile radius from the Truman Soccer Park. Both teams headed for shelter around 4:20 p.m. local time. The slow-moving system finally cleared the area so the second half restarted around 6:10 p.m.
The Bulldogs defended an early Maryville attack out of the break but allowed only one shot on goal that Beth Hopwood turned aside for the shutout. Truman improves to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the GLVC.
The Bulldogs will play at Missouri S&T on Sunday at noon.
