SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Truman State Women's basketball took a win in their final game of the Drury Thanksgiving Classic, defeating Cedarville University 70-63.
The Bulldogs went up 20-13 after the first quarter with a Gracie Stugart buzzer-beater 3-pointer from the volleyball line. Hannah Belanger had eight points in the first, and Stugart recorded five.
The Yellow Jackets of Cedarville went into the half down 10, with Truman leading 36-26. Three Bulldogs nearly reached double-digit points, with Hannah Belanger recording eight, and Alex Fanning and Gracie Stugart had seven each. Cedarville's Lydia Sweeney was their leading scorer with seven.
Truman led for 15:50 in the first half, outscoring Cedarville 16-13 in the second quarter.
Cedarville outscored Truman 21-15 in the third quarter, cutting the Bulldogs' lead to four. Ellie Weltha hit another buzzer-beater, this time in the form of a layup, to go into the final quarter up 51-47.
The Yellow Jackets tied the game at 54 in the fourth quarter, going on a 7-0 run. The Bulldogs were able to retake the lead, winning the hard-fought contest by seven.
Ellie Weltha's 23 points led the Bulldogs in scoring, followed by Hannah Belanger with 12, and Alex Fanning with 10. Both Weltha and Belanger shot .500% from the field.
