KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Gracie Stugart's three-pointer with six minutes left to play helped the Truman State Women's Basketball team flip the switch and was key in a 14-0 run that lifted the Bulldogs to an 86-75 victory over the University of Indianapolis on Monday night.
The Bulldogs led 24-20 after one and 43-39 at half but the Greyhounds went on a 10-0 run in the third quarter and took a 55-54 lead and was in front 61-60 through three.
UINDY was up 70-66 before Belanger knocked down a pair of free throws. On Truman's next possession, Stugart dropped in her first points of the night to push Truman State ahead 71-70.
The lead would expand out to 10 points at 80-70 with 3:32 left to play.
Idalis Ortiz, who led the Greyhounds with 22 points, brought UINDY back to within five on a triple with 2:03 to go.
Nicole Dorn, late in the shot clock, broke the 5-0 run off a pass from Stugart that pushed the momentum back in the Bulldogs favor and they would score the final six points to preserve the victory.
Belanger finished with 21 points adding three rebounds and three assists. Ellie Weltha recorded her 26th career double-double with 18 points and 16 boards and Alex Fanning added 12 points, 11 in the first half with five rebounds.Â
Truman State will head out on the road for conference games against Lewis on Thursday night and Illinois Springfield on Saturday.
