ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Three Bulldogs scored double-digit points as the Truman Women's basketball team pulled off the comeback against Lewis University 71-65.
Up 17-8 with 3:56 left in the first quarter, the Bulldogs were unable to hold their lead as Lewis stormed back to take a five-point lead early in the second quarter. The Flyers held a seven-point lead going into the half.
Truman faced another large deficit in the fourth quarter, down 11 with 9:41 left in the contest. Big 3-pointers by Gracie Stugart and Ellie Weltha got the Bulldogs back in the game, and Truman took the lead with 3:06 left from a Stugart free throw.
Hannah Belanger hit a jumper with 1:17 left to give Truman a five-point lead. Belanger and Stugart would hit late free throws to give the Bulldogs the win over Lewis.
Ellie Weltha scored a team-high 18 points on 7-11 shooting, with 13 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals. Hannah Belanger scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards, and Gracie Stugart dropped 12 points with seven rebounds as well.
Truman plays at Illinois Springfield on Saturday, December 3rd, at 1 p.m.
