LAKELAND, Fla. - No. 8 Eckerd College got the best of Truman State Women's basketball in their final game of the South Florida Christmas Classic, defeating the Bulldogs 91-61.
Truman had a hard time getting the ball in the net, shooting 25% in the first half and faced an early 51-22 deficit. The Bulldogs shot better in the second half, shooting 44.8%, but were unable to erase Eckerd's lead.
Ellie Weltha led Truman in scoring with 18 on 6-11 shooting. Weltha added 12 rebounds and two assists.
Hannah Belanger scored 14 in the game, and is now two shy of Amy Eagan's career points total of 1527.
Claire Rake scored eight points, and Alex Fanning recorded seven points of her own.
Truman Women's basketball will be back in action Monday, January 2nd, at 3 p.m. in an exhibition against William Woods University (Mo.), then host Quincy on Thursday, January 5th, at 5:15 p.m.
