EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—The Truman Men's Basketball team matched up with the Indianapolis Greyhounds in the GLVC quarterfinals for the second straight year Friday night, and in another close game the Greyhounds ended up winning by a slight margin—just four points at 94-90. Both teams shot well as Truman was over 50% from the field and UIndy was over 50% from three point range.
Cade McKnight led Truman with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Elijah Hazekamp scored 22 and Hunter Strait scored 18 and had a team high eight assists. Eric Northweather also scored in double figures with ten and tied McKnight with eight boards.
UIndy jumped out to an early lead, and led most of the first half. With 6:05 to go, Truman took their first lead of the game at 28-27 as Keaton Mitchell hit the first of two free throws. Truman's largest lead of the half was five points at 33-28, following a three from Masen Miller and Mitchell going 1-2 from the line. With 57 seconds left, Truman led 39-36 but UIndy got the last five of the half to lead 41-39 heading into intermission.
In the second half the Bulldogs got down by as many as 16, but were not going to go down easily. The Bulldogs chipped away at the lead, and with 20 seconds left it was 91-88 following a jumper by McKnight. With the ensuing foul, UIndy went 1-2 from the line to go up four. But a turnover on the next Bulldog possession put UIndy back at the line where they went 2-2 to go up six and effectively end the Bulldog's chances of pulling out the win.
Truman now will await their NCAA Tournament fate, they came into this week ranked third in the Midwest and the top eight make the regional.
