Rockhurst’s Derosia, Truman’s Morris Win GLVC Postgraduate Scholarships

INDIANAPOLIS – Rockhurst University women's lacrosse student-athlete, Logan Derosia, and Truman State University football student-athlete, Jacob Morris, have earned this year's Great Lakes Valley Conference Postgraduate Scholarships, it was announced by the Conference office on Tuesday.

The GLVC Postgraduate Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female each year in the amount of $2,500 each to be used in the first year of post-graduate enrollment at the institution of their choice.

A two-time Academic All-GLVC selection, Derosia will continue her academic career next year as a member of the Rockhurst women's lacrosse team while she finishes her Master of Business Administration degree. Derosia had a career year in 2022, topping her previous best of 40 goals in a season with a 42-goal campaign to lead the Hawks in a year where they won 10 games and qualified for the GLVC Championship Tournament. An All-GLVC Second Team selection, the attacker put 69 of her 84 shots on goal (.821) for the most shots on goal among her teammates and the second-best shots on goal percentage.

In the classroom, Derosia finished her undergraduate degree in December 2021 with a 3.93 GPA, majoring in business communications, political science, and Spanish. She began classes for her MBA before graduating earlier this month. After graduating, she wants to pursue her career in marketing where she can continue to engage with her community and pursue her passion for storytelling.

A recent graduate of Truman State, Morris is a five-time All-GLVC selection after using his additional year of eligibility this past fall season. Voted team captain twice for the Bulldogs football team, he totaled 260 receiving yards and two touchdowns out of the backfield on the way to winning the America's Crossroads Bowl for the second times in as many trips to the postseason. The Clive, Iowa, native not only was an All-GLVC selection on the field during his time in Kirksville but was also an Academic All-GLVC selection each of the last four seasons while serving on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) from 2018 to 2021.

Morris graduated with a 3.71 GPA, majoring in exercise science and minoring in biology, psychology, and disability studies. He made the Presidents List three years and will be moving on from Truman to attend the University of Iowa in July, as he pursues his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Morris has done numerous research projects while an undergrad, including having his research published with Dr. Jerry Mayhew in 2019 and serving as a research assistant that same year for a study on collegiate football players.

In order to qualify for consideration, the nominee must graduate by the end of the academic season – or by the end of the summer – of the application year, must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 (on a 4.0 grading scale), have competed in a GLVC-sponsored sport for at least two years, and be a member of a team in the year the scholarship is awarded. Each league member may nominate one male and one female from their respective institution.
