RAPID CITY, S.D. - Truman State got their first win of the 2022 football season over South Dakota Mines 27-20. Nolan Hair and the Bulldogs took the victory in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Bulldogs got off a fast start, scoring first with a 10-yard pass from Nolan Hair to Tate Crane at 9:40. Hardrockers running back Bryan Lumsden fumbled on the play following the kick return to give Truman the ball back. Hair then connected to Chris Kerr from 23-yards out to take a quick 13-0 lead.
South Dakota Mines struck back late in the first-quarter with a Jayden Johannsen touchdown run from the Truman one yard line to make it 13-6.
Hair threw an easy 34-yard touchdown to Chris Kerr again to give Truman a 20-6 lead with 6:41 left in the 2nd.
A 3:49 drive for Truman ended with a phenomenal 12-yard Shamar Griffith touchdown run. Griffith ran to his left, got stopped at the line of scrimmage, circled back around to his right and dashed up the middle of the field for the score. Truman led 27-6 with 14:31 to play in the 4th-quarter.
South Dakota Mines went on to score two more times, making the score 27-20, but the Bulldogs were able to recover the final onside kick and secure the win.
Nolan Hair ended the game with 228 yards on 18-29 passing and three touchdowns. Hair also led Truman in rushing with 50 yards.
90 of Hair's passing yards went to Chris Kerr, who had five catches and two touchdowns.
Ben Thomas had another fantastic game with a team-high nine total tackles. Ben Watson and Ryan Olivas recorded interceptions.
