KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Claire Rake's consecutive three-pointers to end the first half stemmed the tide and Ellie Weltha scored 11 of her game-high 18 points in the third quarter as the Truman Women's Basketball team pulled away for an 83-59 win over Winona (Minn.) State on Friday evening. The Bulldogs will turnaround and host Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Bulldogs trailed 7-3 early on but closed the first quarter on an 11-2 run to lead by 10. They would scored the first five points of the second quarter and grabbed a 15-point advantage before the Warriors whittled the lead away.Â
Lindsey Hahn of WSU knocked down a three-pointer to cut the lead to six with under a minute to play in the half and Rake responded with her own triple on the Bulldogs next trip down the floor. Following a steal by Molly Joyce, Rake drilled a second triple to extend the Truman State lead back out to 40-28.
In the second half, the Bulldogs gradually pulled away using Weltha's post presence as she racked up 11 points in the quarter.Â
Weltha finished with 18 points and Rake 17 while Bailey Kliewer joined the duo in double-figures with 12. The team had 20 assists on 25 made baskets and made 21-of-25 free throw attempts.
