FINDLAY, Ohio - Mason Huskey's 66-yard catch and run from quarterback Nolan Hair three plays into the second half broke a 10-10 tie and lifted the Truman State Bulldogs to a 20-10 road win over the University of Findlay on Saturday afternoon.
Grant Ross hit his second field goal of the day on the Bulldogs next second half possession from 42-yards out and the Truman State defense pitched a shutout over the final 30 minutes with key interceptions by Isaiah Estes and Peyton Carr.
The teams exchanged 22-yard touchdown passes to open the scoring midway through the first half. Findlay struck first with Alec Bornhorst hitting Mike Rigerman with 1:15 to play in the first quarter to cap off a nine-play 75-yard drive and Hair struck Zach Zerwig with 9:01 to play in the second to complete a 13-play, 75-yard drive that tied the game.
Ross was good from 36-yards out with 2:56 left in the half to give the Bulldogs the 10-7 lead but a late interception by Findlay led to a 29-yard field goal just before the end of the half to send the teams the the locker room tied at 10 each.
Hair finished 16-of-25 for 184 yards while Huskey led the rushers with 47 yards on 12 attempts. Tate Crane made four catches for 35 yards and Noah Copeland made two grabs for 28.
Estes, Ben Thomas and Jake Closser tied for game-high tackle honors with five each and Jack Weltha finished with two tackles for loss.
The Bulldogs will welcome South Dakota Mines next Saturday at noon for the home opener. The Hardrockers won on Friday evening 31-14 over Valley City (S.D.) State and will be looking to avenge Truman's 27-20 win in Rapid City last season.
