WINONA, Minn. - A late lead slipped away at Winona (Minn.) State closed the game on an 18-7 run to down the Truman State Women's Basketball team 70-64 on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs will open up their home season with games against Washburn (Kan.) and Quincy (Ill.) next weekend.
The Bulldogs led 14-11 after the first quarter, and by one at 29-28 at the halftime break. Bryan Duwe scored at the end of the third quarter to knot the score at 47 apiece.
The game featured nine ties and 15 lead changes and Truman had a five-point lead at 57-52 following a bucket by Maddie Niemeier with just over four minutes left to play.
The Warriors picked up a three-pointer on their next possession and that ignited an 11-0 run over the next 3:20 of game time that push Winona State ahead 63-57.
Molly Joyce knocked down her own triple to cut the lead to three with 46 seconds showing but the Warriors made seven of eight from the foul line to seal the win.
Joyce led the Bulldogs with 23 points and Niemeier followed with 15. Duwe finished with a collegiate high of 13. Truman State was just 4-of-20 from outside while Winona knocked down eight triples.
The Bulldogs open the home portion of their schedule with an 11 a.m. game Friday against Washburn (Kan.).Â
