FINDLAY, Ohio – It was a tale of two halves for the Truman State Men's Basketball team against host Findlay University exploded for a 16-2 run to break open a two-point game and down the Bulldogs 97-73 in the finale of the GMAC/GLVC Challenge.
Trey Shearer was on fire in the first half making all seven shot attempts, including six from beyond the arc for 20 points. However, he took just one shot, coming with six minutes remaining, in the second half and stayed at 20 points for team-high honors.
The Bulldogs shot 65% in the first 20 minutes, making 17-of-26 field goal attempts and Shearer accounting for six of the eight three-pointers. In the second, the Bulldogs managed only 11 field goals on 30 tries and were 3-of-17 from distance as they were attempting to shoot their way back into the game.
Findlay scored the final eight points of the first half to head into the locker room up 47-43.
Kobi Williams started the second period with a bucket but the Oilers turned up the pressure and would go on that 16-2 run to take a 63-47 lead.
Williams finished with 19 points. Freshman
Quientan McCafferty added nine points.
The Bulldogs go 1-1 in the GMAC/GLVC Challenge and will face former conference member Emporia (Kan.) State for the home opener on Wednesday night in Pershing Arena. Tip time is slated for 6 p.m. with free admission. The Hornets and Bulldogs played from 1992 through 2013 as members of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. They have played non-conference games the last two years with both at historic White Auditorium in Emporia with the Hornets grabbing both wins.
