INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Maddie Niemeier scored a season-high 18 points to help give Truman State a huge win against UINDY on the road.
The Bulldogs got off to a fast start, going on an 11-0 run to begin the game. UINDY got back into the game however, going into the second quarter down 19-16.
Neither team was able to pull away in the second, with the largest lead being five that Truman held three different times. The Bulldogs went into the half up two with a score of 36-34.
The Greyhounds took their first lead of the game at the 6:37 mark in the third quarter, where they went up 41-40, but Truman quickly took it back and led for the rest of the period.
Truman State went up 63-55 early in the fourth, but the lead did not last as UINDY tied it up 67-67 with 3:02 remaining. Maddie Niemeier scored six points in the last three minutes to lead the Bulldogs to victory.
Niemeier led Truman in scoring with 18 on a team-high 15 attempts. She went 8-15 from the field along with eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Ellie Weltha nearly had a double-double as well, scoring 17 points on 7-10 shooting. Weltha's three missed shots were all 3-pointers, where she went 2-5. Ellie grabbed eight boards to go along with two assists and a block.
Claire Rake, Gracie Neff, and Emma Bulman all scored double-digit points against UINDY. Rake had 12 on four threes, Neff had 11 with six assists, and Bulman had 10 with the help of six made free throws.
Truman State held UINDY to 28-67 (41.8%) shooting from the field, and just 4-19 (21.1%) from behind the arc.
The Bulldogs are now 6-16 overall and secured their third conference win of the season.
The Maryville Saints come to Kirksville next to take on the Bulldogs on Thursday, February 15th, at 5:15 p.m.
