KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Truman State Women's basketball suffered a 79-65 loss to Maryville University on Thursday.
The Maryville Saints jumped out to a 13-0 lead at the 6:02 mark in the first quarter, and the Saints went in the second period up 21-12.
The second quarter was much more even, with both teams scoring 14 points. Ellie Weltha led both teams with seven points in the quarter.
Maryville once again had Truman's number in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 20-12. The Saints shot 7-20 and 4-6 from three and Truman shot 5-16 and 0-2 from behind the arc.
The Bulldogs outscored the Saints 24-27 in the final quarter, but it was not enough as Maryville won by 14.
Molly Joyce led Truman in scoring with 16 points on 7-18 shooting. Joyce also had six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Ellie Weltha recorded a double-double, dropping 14 points and grabbing 11 boards. She added two assists, one block, and two steals.
Claire Rake also had double-digit points, scoring 11 on an efficient 4-6 shooting from the field and 3-5 from three.
Gracie Neff and Maddie Niemeier both had nine points, and Baily Kliewer grabbed eight rebounds.
Truman plays Missouri S&T next on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Pershing Arena.
