KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Truman State Bulldogs took a 2-1 series lead against Northern State on Saturday afternoon after splitting a doubleheader.
Game One:
Will Fromm gave Truman a 2-0 lead in the second inning following a two-run home run that brought Oliver Degenhardt across the plate.
The Northern State Wolves scored the winning runs in the fourth inning with a two-RBI double, then a third run got home when a runner on third scored on a groundout.
Olver Degenhardt led Truman in hits with two in two at-bats. He scored once and recorded a walk.
Will Fromm led in RBI with tow from his homer in the second.
Luke Turner, Dylan Thompson, and Colin Mueth also recorded hits. Dylan Thompson hit a double and Colin Mueth stole a base.
Ty Rauser was the starter and threw three inning, and Alex Leary followed him and threw 4.0 innings. Rauser struck out three and walk three, while giving up two hits and three earned runs. Leary struck out one batter and walked three, but only allowed two hits and no earned runs.
Game Two:
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start in the final game of the doubleheader, scoring four in three innings. In the first, Tal Dean scored on a Dylan Thompson sacrifice fly, Will Fromm drove Oliver Degenhardt in with a single through the right side in the second. In the third inning, Dakota Joggerst hit an RBI single that scored Dylan Thompson, and Tyler Tieman also hit an RBI single where Joggerst came home.
The Wolves scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning on a solo home run.
Seven Bulldogs recorded hits, with Oliver Degenhardt leading the squad with two.
Dylan Thompson, Dakota Joggerst, Tyler Tieman, and Will Fromm all had RBI in the contest.
Luke Roussel went 0-1 at the plat but walked twice.
Tal Dean, Luke Turner, and Luke Roussel all swiped a bag.
The Bulldogs had great performances from their pitchers. Nate Bartlett started and took the win after throwing 6.0 innings with only one earned run. Bartlett sat eight Wolves down with just two walks. Jaren Guck got the save, throwing a shutout seventh inning. Guck struck out two of the four batters he faced.
Truman State welcomed Stetson Alley to the team today after the first game of the doubleheader. Stetson is an 11 year old from Galt, Missouri who signed his Letter of Intent to Truman State through the Team Impact Program. Team Impact matches kids with college sports team, creating a life-changing experiences for all involved. Through Team Impact, the vision is to create a world where every child facing some adversity feels supported by something bigger and every team is transformed by a greater purpose.
The Bulldogs are 3-10 overall and look to take the series win against he Northwest State Wolves tomorrow at 11 a.m.
