OMAHA, Neb. - The Truman Tennis team rallied for a 4-3 win over Doane to start their weekend road swing through Nebraska.
The Bulldogs dropped the doubles point and fell behind 2-0 until wins at three, five and six singles to go up 3-2. The win was clinched on a three-set Super tiebreaker by Finley Laforge at number four singles.
Doane picked up wins at numbers one and three doubles but Akansha Negi and Abbi Worster won number two 6-4.
Sydney Dial dropped number one singles to a nationally ranked opponent in straight sets but the Bulldogs got wins from Negi (6-2, 6-3) at number three, Worster (6-0, 6-2) at number five and went up 3-2 with Mary Grace Seymore prevailing 6-3, 6-2 at number six.
The final two matches on the court needed three sets. Laforge lost the first set 7-5 but rallied for the second set 6-4 to force the tiebreaker. In that extra set, she would dominate for a 10-2 win to clinch the team point. The other match, while going Doane's way, Nayana Malangl fell behind 4-0 in the first set before storming back to win 7-6 (7-2), Doane's player Liz Calderon evened the match with a 6-2 set two win and edged out Malangl 10-8 in the tiebreaker.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday against the College of Saint Mary.
