White, Duwe career highs not enough in Bulldog loss at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy (Ill.) Hawks ran their winning streak to eight with 82-69 win over Truman State in Saturday Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) women's basketball.

The Bulldogs, with career highs from sophomore guards Lexie White and Bryar Duwe, gave up a 16-2 run early to allow the Hawks to extend their lead to 14 points midway through the third period. Truman State found itself at a 40-28 rebounding disadvantage with the Hawks able to outpace the 'Dogs in second chance points, 12-2, and 14-7 on the offensive glass.

Truman State, behind hot shooting early by Duwe, held a 12-9 lead in the first quarter with 4:27 to play before Quincy scored eight of the next 12 lead 17-16 after one. The second quarter, one in which the 'Dogs shot 5-8 from the line, went Quincy's way despite six ties and nine lead changes, and the Hawks were able to extend their lead to 35-32 at the half. White sank two shots, including a three-pointer, to get the Bulldogs out to a 37-35 lead as the third quarter began, but a 16-2 Quincy run over the next 4:05 put the Purple and White down by 14 points.

White tossed in 16 points, all in the second half after being called for two fouls in the first, going 6-9 from the floor and 3-6 from behind the three-point line. Duwe tallied 14 points behind a career-best four three pointers made. Sophomore guard Molly Joyce scored 12 with four assists and a team-high six rebounds.

Four Hawks scored double digits with Nicole McDermott leading all scorers with 18 while Taylor Haase grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
