KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Missouri S&T pulled out a 74-72 win over the Truman State Women's Basketball team on Friday. Chorus Davis made the winning basket with 0.7 showing on the game clock.
The Miners raced out to a 10-2 lead but the Bulldogs scored nine straight to jump in front. S&T then reeled off a 13-4 run to lead 23-15 after one.
Missouri S&T led 41-32 at the break and took their largest lead of 47-35 with just under six minutes left in the third quarter. Truman State went on a 15-4 spurt to pull back to within one at 51-50.
Lexie White snared a baseline pass from
Gracie Neff to give Truman State a 58-57 lead and
Tori Standefer buried a corner pocket three-pointer to put the Bulldogs up 65-59.
The Miners stormed back and with 2:15 left tied the game at 67 each.
Jordan Cunningham gave Truman State a 72-69 lead with 48 seconds left but the Miners got a clutch three-pointer from Addyson Kent to knot the score at 72 each.
When the Bulldogs inbounded the ball, the shot and game clocks were about nine seconds apart.
Molly Joyce drove down the lane but missed the jumper, while S&T raced out with the rebound with no timeouts left. Franchesca Metz fed a bounce pass to Davis on the opposite block and she touched the ball off the glass into the net for the lead with .7 left.
The Bulldogs had one last chance out of a timeout and Joyce's shot bounced off the rim.
Cunningham finished with 25 points while White had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Bryar Duwe made three triples and finished with 13 points.
Truman State will host Lincoln (Mo.) University on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. The originally scheduled Sunday tilt was pushed back due to impending winter weather.
