The Truman State cross country teams turned in standout performances at the Brian T. Simpson Invite on Saturday, highlighted by the Bulldog women capturing the team championship, their first of the season and the first under Head Coach Thomas Whittaker. The women's victory came in a twelve team field at Gans Creek Cross Country Course, while the men placed fifth out of nine teams in a competitive meet that included several regional programs.
"It was really special to see both groups run with composure and confidence today," Whittaker said after earning his first team win as Truman's head coach. "The women ran together incredibly well, and the men continued to show progress and pack strength that will pay off as we move toward the conference meet."
Truman's women dominated the front of the pack, placing six runners inside the top 10 to win comfortably. Carmen Gentilia (3rd, 19:00.44) led the way, with Clare Stahr (4th, 19:12.95) and McKenna Ledgerwood (5th, 19:18.45) close behind. Ellie Webb, Cora Stimpson, and Phoebe Canatsey rounded out the top group, giving Truman a tight spread of less than 30 seconds among its scorers.
On the men's side, Jacob Gutzman led the Bulldogs with a fifth-place finish in 26:34.50, and Nolan Meara added a top-10 result in 26:49.46. Truman packed five runners in the top 50 to secure fifth overall in the team standings, showing continued growth in depth and consistency.
