Liberty, Mo. – The Truman State Men's Soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with William Jewell on Friday night at Greene Stadium. After falling behind early, the Bulldogs controlled much of the second half and earned the equalizer, but couldn't find the game-winner despite a strong offensive push.
The Cardinals struck first in the 9th minute when Eliott Labeth converted a cross from Kaleb Fannin, putting Truman in an early 1-0 hole. From there, the Bulldogs began to settle in, slowly gaining control of possession. Chances from Jacob Panagos and Henry Jenks forced saves from Jewell goalkeeper Umberto Di Carlo late in the half, but Truman went into the break trailing 1-0.
The Bulldogs came out with renewed energy in the second half and quickly turned the tide. After a series of substitutions brought fresh legs into the attack, Nathan Grewe delivered a well-placed pass to Oliver Doyle, who buried the equalizer in the 55th minute to make it 1-1.
Truman continued to push forward, firing eight second-half shots and forcing Di Carlo into five saves. The Bulldogs nearly grabbed the lead in the 86th minute when Jacob Panagos drew a penalty, but Di Carlo guessed correctly to stop the attempt and keep the match level. Despite playing the final minutes down a man following a red card, Truman's defense held firm to preserve the draw.
Goalkeeper Owen Robben was solid in net, making four saves, including several key stops late in the match to deny Jewell's counterattacks.
