KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Truman State could not answer a three-run Lincoln (Mo.) sixth in Game 2 of a Saturday double header and wound up with a split by scores of 7-2 and 4-2.
Isaac Epp, starter for the Bulldogs in Game 1, allowed two runs on four hits, walking none while striking out four, to pick up his fourth win on the campaign going all seven. The 'Dog knocked out 10 hits with three from
Charlie Berry and two each for
Dakota Joggerst and
Alex Wittenauer, each of whom collected doubles.
Colin Mueth at the top of the order also hit a double while notching two RBI.
Luke Roussel and Wittenauer both crossed the plate twice in the win.
For the second time in his past three starts at home, Truman State's
Nick Phillips went into the fifth inning having not surrendered a hit but, as with his bid at a no hitter against Southwest Baptist March 29, Lincoln belted a home run to get into the hits column and on the scoreboard. The Blue Tiger fifth saw Truman State working from behind for the first time since the first inning in Game 1 with the 'Dogs unable to get a hit the rest of the way.
Phillips finished with three hits against for four runs striking out six but walking three. Roussel and
Quinten Bauman both scored with Roussel accounting for two of the five Truman State hits. Joggerst knocked his second double of the day with catcher
Gavin Schieffer and DH
Reed Drabant recording RBI.
The four-game series concludes at 12 p.m. Sunday in Kirksville.
