KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Truman State could not solve Quincy (Ill.) pitching falling in Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) tilt by an 8-2 final.
The Bulldogs found themselves down 1-0 after a lead-off first-inning double off Truman State starter
Nick Phillips came around to score. Two more runs in the Quincy second followed by three more in the top of the fourth saw the Hawks up 6-0 before the Purple and White got a runner to third.
Left fielder
Rawlins Brant got things rolling for the Bulldogs by leading off the bottom of the fourth with his second triple of the year scoring on a grounder to third by
Oliver Degenhardt.
Dakota Joggerst plated Degenhardt with his 15th double of the season before consecutive strike outs ended the Bulldog rally. Quincy retired nine Bulldog batters by strike out allowing four walks while Truman State pitching gave up six bases on balls with three hit by pitches. The Hawks stranded 12 runners.
Degenhardt and Joggerst paced the Bulldogs with two hits each with Brant contributing the triple and safeties by
Colin Mueth and
Charlie Berry. Phillips took the loss tossing 4.0 innings giving up six runs, five earned, on eight hits and four walks.
Noah Frailey worked 5.0 innings in relief giving up two runs on three hits total.
Truman State falls to 12-22 overall, 9-21 GLVC, while Quincy improves to 23-25, 16-14 GLVC. The two wrap the regular season Saturday with a double header scheduled for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. first pitches.
