Kirksville, Mo. – Truman State University Athletics has announced the addition of Jacob Oyler as the new Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Communications. Oyler, a former collegiate athlete with extensive experience in athletic communications, fan engagement, and digital strategy, will lead the Bulldogs' marketing, branding, and media efforts.
Oyler comes to Truman after serving as the Director of Athletic Communications at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. During his tenure, he guided several high-profile projects and events that elevated the Saints' athletic brand. He directed the university's end of the year athletics awards celebration, overseeing production, scripting, and multimedia presentation. He also spearheaded a major revamp of the athletics website, developing modernized record books, while correcting historical archives, statistics, and rosters for 22 varsity programs. In addition, Oyler built strategic partnerships with the university's central marketing office and regional media partners, helping the Saints strengthen their presence in a competitive college sports market.
Before joining St. Scholastica, Oyler served as the Game Operations and Fan Engagement Coordinator at Park University (Mo.), where he earned recognition as part of the 2024–25 Heart of America Conference Sports Information Staff of the Year. He enhanced the game day atmosphere through creative video board content, rivalry-specific branding, and postgame interview features, while also assisting with multi-camera broadcast production and could be heard as the voice of the Pirates for men's and women's volleyball. He further established consistency across the department's social media channels by designing graphics and themes that gave the Pirates a stronger digital identity.
Oyler's professional path in athletics began as a Graduate Assistant in Athletics External Affairs at Missouri Western State University. There, he was responsible for a wide range of external operations including ticketing, booster relations, fan engagement events, and creative media production. He also assisted with the school's Hall of Fame induction ceremony and served as a mentor and supervisor for game day student staff.
In addition to his communications and operations background, Oyler brings leadership skills rooted in his own student-athlete experience. A member of Missouri Western's men's cross country and track & field programs, he excelled academically as a Summa Cum Laude graduate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology ('22), earning multiple academic honors and completing three scientific publications. He later earned his MBA in 2023, graduating with a 4.0 GPA and was a member of Missouri Western's SAAC Leadership Committee.
At Truman, Oyler will oversee all aspects of marketing, communications, and fan engagement for the athletic department, including media relations, broadcast production, digital content creation, and strategic branding initiatives. His addition strengthens the Bulldogs' commitment to enhancing visibility, elevating the game day atmosphere, and sharing the achievements of Truman's student-athletes with the campus and community.
"I am very excited to join the Bulldogs," said Oyler. "I look forward to expanding the athletic department's video production and plan on making us stand out within an already great conference like the GLVC."
