KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — The Truman State softball team hosted the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds on Saturday in a GLVC doubleheader at Stotler Stadium, falling 12-1 and 10-3 to one of the nation's top programs. Indianapolis entered the day ranked No. 8 nationally at 36-2 overall and 12-1 in conference play. Truman falls to 13-23 on the season and 5-7 in the GLVC.
Game 1: Indianapolis 12, Truman 1
Willis gave the Greyhounds an early lead with a solo home run to right center in the first inning, but Truman responded in the second with a big moment of its own. Avaree Taylor launched her first home run of the season, a solo shot to right field, to even the score at 1-1.
Indianapolis pulled back in front in the third inning, with Rodriguez delivering a two-RBI single that scored both Cooper and Vickery to make it 3-1. The Greyhounds extended the lead in the fifth on a three-run homer by Vickery and added two more in the sixth on another Vickery RBI single, with Vickery finishing the game with five RBI.
Truman continued to compete on the mound, with Jayda Long and Lydia Feiste combining for 5.1 innings of relief work behind starter Avaree Taylor, who took the loss (1-4).
Eads earned the win for Indianapolis, improving to 18-1 after striking out nine over six innings.
Game 2: Indianapolis 10, Truman 3
Truman came out swinging in the nightcap, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Emily Wood came around to score on a two-out RBI single up the middle by Madison Kluever.
Indianapolis answered with three runs in the second on a Willis home run to center field, then added three more in the third on a Eads home run to right center to build a 7-1 advantage.
The Bulldogs showed fight in the seventh, stringing together a two-run rally. Ella Florey scored when Sofia Birkenholz reached on a Greyhound error, and Katie Pilcher followed with an RBI single to center to bring Emily Wood home and make it a 10-3 final. Emily Wood and Ella Florey each recorded two hits on the day, with Wood adding two stolen bases.
Madison Kluever started on the mound and took the loss (2-7), with Brooke Nutter and Avaree Taylor each providing relief. Bunte went the distance for Indianapolis (17-1), allowing just one earned run while also contributing a two-run home run in the seventh.

Truman State has a great opportunity ahead, playing four home games this coming weekend against William Jewell and Rockhurst with doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at noon and 2:00 PM on each day. The Bulldogs currently sit one game behind both KC area teams, who are tied for 8th in the GLVC standings with a 6-8 record.
