Truman

2013: First-team all-GLVC…posted second-most tackles for loss in a Truman season with 16.5 with four coming against William Jewell on Oct. 12…finished with 52 total tackles and 5.5 sacks…is fifth in career tackles for loss at Truman with 30…had career-high nine tackles in victory over William Penn on Sept. 21…registered at least a share of a tackle for loss in each game…named to the Academic All-GLVC team.

2012: A medical redshirt for the season after playing in the first two games…had six tackles including one for loss in season opening win over Southwest Baptist (Mo.)…had a pass breakup in Sept. 8 game against Lincoln, both Truman wins.

2011: Led the team with 10 TFLs and 5.5 sacks…had three sacks, including a fumble recovery in the endzone in the Bulldogs 24-8 victory over SW Baptist…notched season-high six tackles in games against Missouri Southern and SW Baptist and recorded stops in all 11 games…had two fumble recoveries and two pass breakups…named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

2010: Played in ten games as a true freshman…made an immediate impact with sacks in his first two games, including one on the final play against St. Joseph’s College in the season opener on fourth down for a loss of 13 yards...recorded a season high five tackles the following week in a 33-30 victory against Southwest Baptist...his second sack ended an SBU threat late in the fourth quarter that took the Bearcats out of field goal range.

High School: Abbate had 75 tackles (39 solo and 18 for loss) with nine sacks, six forced fumbles and an interception while helping the Glenbard North Panthers to the semifinals of the Illinois Class 8A championship bracket.  Abbate was a unanimous choice as the DuPage Valley Conference linemen and Defensive Linemen of the year.  The Panthers were 11-2 in 2009 with the two losses coming against the Class 7A State Champion (W. Warrensville South) and the Class 8A runner-up (Marist-Chicago).   He was named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association, EdgyTim/Rivals.com, News-Gazette.com and Chicago Tribune all-state teams.  In addition, Abbate was an all-area pick by the Chicago Sun Times and Daily Herald.
