Biography
2014 (Junior): Started all 10 games at defensive end…was first on the team in tackles for loss with 14 and quarterback sacks with 5.5…finished with 47 total stops with a single-game high of eight against Lincoln (September 27)…against McKendree on October 4, all four stops were behind the line of scrimmage for 25 total yards, two of the four TFLs were sacks…had two forced fumbles, one against McKendree and another against Quincy on November 8.
2013 (Sophomore): Action in 10 with six starts…finished with 19 total stops and 3.0 tackles for loss…had five stops (1 solo) against Central Missouri on Sept. 28…posted a sack for seven yards and a fumble recovery and return for nine yards in Truman’s shutout over Quincy (Ill.) in their GLVC opener on Oct. 5.
2012 (Redshirt Freshman): Made 21 total tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks in 11 games…had season high five tackles (2 solo; 3 assisted) in victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Sept. 15…recorded a sack or half sack in three straight games for a total of 13 yards lost.
2011 (Freshman): Redshirted
High School: Gillespie was a 2010 all-state honoree while also being name twice to the Suburban North all-conference team. In his three years on the varsity level, Gillespie’s Hawks went 38-4 and played in three straight Missouri class six title games, winning two of them. Coach Richard Nixon’s squad earned a top 25 national ranking. Gillespie is also an accomplished high school wrestler and competes in shot put and discus for the school’s track and field team.
