TRUMAN ATHLETIC INSURANCE

Truman State University’s athletic department carries a secondary athletic insurance policy on all Truman athletes. This policy pays expenses after the student-athlete’s personal insurance has paid.
This policy only covers expenses that are a direct result participation in supervised, official athletic practices and competitions. Injuries will only be covered if they have been reported and documented by the athletic training staff.
 Covered expenses include:

  • Injuries that occur as a result of athletic participation
  • Covers medical charges for one year after the injury
  • Physician visits
  • Diagnostic tests
  • Surgery
  • Rehabilitation
***Truman's insurance provide coverage for ONE year after the date of injury***

Truman's policy does not cover injuries that occur outside of official practices or competitions.  Injuries that occur during pick-up games, on-your-own conditioning, or during summer training are not covered by Truman's policy.  Injuries that are a result of “wear and tear” from years of athletic activity are not covered.  Some examples non-covered expenses include:
  • Illnesses
  • Injuries that occur during the summer, captain’s practices, open gym
  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Medications
  • Experimental treatments
  • Injuries that are caused by personal accidents
  • Injuries resulting from emotional reactions such as hitting, punching, kicking, etc.
  • Injuries that occur riding on the bus
  • Chiropractor visits
  • Orthotics
