Truman State University's athletic department carries a secondary athletic insurance policy on all Truman athletes. This policy pays expenses after the student-athlete's personal insurance has paid.
This policy only covers expenses that are a direct result of participation in supervised, official athletic practices and competitions. Injuries will only be covered if they have been reported and documented by the athletic training staff.
Coverage Period
Truman's insurance provides coverage for one year after the date of injury.
Covered expenses include:
- Injuries that occur as a result of athletic participation
- Covers medical charges for one year after the injury
- Physician visits
- Diagnostic tests
- Surgery
- Rehabilitation

Not covered by Truman's policy:
Truman's policy does not cover injuries that occur outside of official practices or competitions. Injuries during pick-up games, on-your-own conditioning, or summer training are not covered. Injuries resulting from "wear and tear" are also not covered.
- Illnesses
- Injuries that occur during the summer, captain's practices, open gym
- Pre-existing conditions
- Medications
- Experimental treatments
- Injuries caused by personal accidents
- Injuries resulting from emotional reactions such as hitting, punching, or kicking
- Injuries that occur while riding on the bus
- Chiropractor visits
- Orthotics
