Romero-Mendoza comes from Springfield, Illinois where he was an instructor and coach at the Hitting Center Baseball Academy since July of 2017; and has coached at multiple levels of college baseball.
Prior to his role at the Hitting Center Baseball Academy, Romero-Mendoza coached at Colorado State University-Pueblo as a full-time assistant coach and from August 2006-June 2012 (two separate stints, coached high school during the 2009 season) and was at San Bernardino Valley College from June 2002-June 2005 as an assistant coach. At both of his previous positions, he was responsible for organizing team travel, meeting with administrators, aligning players in the field, recruiting and other day to day operations.
During his first season with CSU-Pueblo, the Thunderwolves won 36 games, the most during his tenure. He coached under Stan Sanchez, who won 868 games--13th most among Division II coaches. In each of the five seasons at CSU-Pueblo, the team won at least 20 games.
While at SBVC, he coached four players that were drafted: Matt Saucedo (Minnesota Twins), Ryan Harris (Toronto Blue Jays), Eric Floor (Chicago Cubs) and Malcolm Owens (St. Louis Cardinals). During his four years the teams went 108-50; including a 31 win campaign in 2003.
Starting in 2010, he also worked with the Springfield Sliders of the Summer Collegiate Baseball Organization as the Director of Operations and Field Management. He handled all team logistics and as well as organized summer camps and run practices. During his time with the team, nine different players signed professional contracts, including Ryan Aper who was drafted in the sixth round by the Miami Marlins, and Matt Tellor, drafted in the 16th round by the Atlanta Braves.
