2018 (Redshirt Freshman)
- Returned 19 punts for 126 yards as a redshirt freshman.
- Longest was 23 yards that set up Truman’s go-ahead touchdown in a 45-38 victory over McKendree on October 6.
- Added a pair of catches for 13 yards in games against Morningside and William Jewell.
- Returned his only kickoff 24 yards in season finale against Missouri S&T.
- Earned his second Academic All-GLVC award.
2017 (Freshman): Redshirt season…earned Academic All-GLVC honors.
High School: Newell earned all-State honors as a kick and punt returner for the Eagles of Joplin High School. He had 722 yards in returns, 346 on kick, 229 on punt as a senior. He made 74 of his career 102 receptions in his final season for 816 yards and six touchdowns with a long of 71. As a defender, Newell registered 106 career tackles and four for loss with five interceptions and 18 passes defended. He was named to both the all-conference and all-District teams. Newell is a member of the National Honor Society.
