(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) – Senior Chris Kovach shot a pair of one-under par 71s to tie for fifth place at Missouri Western Fall Invitational. Kovach and the Bulldogs finished sixth after a final round 294, which marked the lowest single-day total for Truman since October of 2008.
The Bulldogs finished just four shots behind Missouri Southern but passed Southwest Baptist by one stroke and maintained their lead over Fort Hays State, Lincoln and Pittsburg State in the league standings.
Andy Herington tied for 23rd with a pair of 75 rounds, Jeff Wrange tied for 31st, Nik Bentzinger tied for 39th and Jake Hanrahan tied for 50th.
Truman moved into 7th place in the season-long MIAA team standings with seven total points through the first half of the conference season. Kovach also will carry the MIAA individual points lead into the winter off-season, having garnered 14 points through two events, which is enough to lead Central Missouri's Matt Miller by 1.5 points. MIAA action will resume with in April at the UCM Invitational before the final points event of the season at the MIAA Championships.
The team will next be in action Sunday and Monday at the Maryville (Mo.) Fall Classic at Aberdeen Golf Club just outside of St. Louis. It will be the final tournament of the fall season for the men.
