Kovach Selected for Men's Golf Regional

INDIANAPOLIS - - Truman men's golf senior Chris Kovach was selected to participate as an individual at the 2011 NCAA Midwest/South Central Regional, to be held May 2-4 at Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown, Ky. Friday afternoon's announcement marked the second time Kovach has been chosen to compete in the NCAA tournament.

Kovach (St. Louis, Mo., Oakville) finished second in the MIAA points race this season, accumulating 22.5 points through the conference's four sanctioned events. He posted four top-5 finishes on the season, including a second place finish at the MIAA Championships earlier this week in Kansas City.

For the season, the senior posted a stroke average of 75.6 in 21 rounds played. He qualified for regionals during his freshman season in 2008, where he finished tied for 13th in Findlay, Ohio.

Kovach will join two other MIAA teams – Central Missouri and Washburn (Kan.) – along with a pair of other MIAA individuals – Missouri Southern's Andy Hogenmiller and Fort Hays State's Kevin Quinley – at the 54-hole event between teams from the Midwest and South Central regions. Overall, 20 teams and eight individuals will compete (10 teams, four individuals from each region), with the top five teams and two individuals advancing to the NCAA Div. II men's golf championship, held May 16-20 in Florence, Ala.
