KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Freshman Nicole Gloor came off the bench and scored a game-high 22 points as the Truman Women's Basketball team pulled away late and defeated Maryville University (Mo.) 73-61 for their first win of the season.
Gloor (Overland Park, Kan., Blue Valley) was 7-of-11 from the field and 8-of-9 from the foul line with four steals as the Bulldog bench outscored the Saints bench 50-10.
Breanna Daniels (Ridgedale, Mo., Hollister)added 19 points for Truman on 6-of-12 shooting and three, three-pointers.
Truman (1-2 overall)led by six at half after Bianca Szafarowicz (Wheeling, Ill., Wheeling) got a running layup to fall as both the shot clock and game clock expired. The Bulldogs would not let go of that lead despite four ties in the second half.
Gloor's three-point play with 8:35 left gave Truman their largest lead at 11 but an 11-2 run over the next three minutes trimmed the Bulldog advantage down to just two at 57-55.
The Saints (1-2 overall) leading scorer with 15 points, Abby Duethman, picked up her fifth foul with 5:27 to play on a three-point play by Erin Glogovsky that extended the lead back to five.
The Bulldogs closed the game on their own 11-2 run and hit 13-of-15 free throw attempts in the half.
Truman shot 45% from the field for the game and 90% (19-of-21) from the foul line.
The Bulldogs will open up play in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association on Wednesday night when they host Missouri Southern State University at 5:30 p.m.
