Box Score | Season Stats

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Three Bulldogs scored in double figures including a career-high 12 points from sophomore Megan Sharpe but a cold spell in the second half allowed #8 Emporia State to go on an 11-1 run and defeat the Bulldogs 65-53 in Pershing Arena on Saturday night.

Truman (4-4; 3-2 MIAA) led by five in the first half and three at the break but Rheanna Egli quickly tied the game on a three-pointer to start the second as the two teams went back and forth for over the next 10 minutes.

Alli Volkens and Haley Parker were key during a five minute stretch as Emporia went on their 11-1 run to take a 52-41 lead with 6:57 to play. Parker scored all seven of her points during that string.

Nicole Gloor connected on a three-pointer with 3:17 left to pull Truman back to within five but Rachel Hanf floated a pair of running jumpers in the lane on consecutive possessions and Egli dropped in a three-pointer with 1:36 showing to put the game out of reach.

Volkens finished with 16 points for the Lady Hornets with 10 coming from the foul line and added 10 rebounds. Volkens also was a key presence inside with four of Emporia State's six blocked shots.

Breanna Daniels led Truman in scoring with 17 points, her 13th straight game dating back to last season in double figures. Sharpe added 12 off the bench which bested her career high of 10 last year against Northwest Missouri. Gloor also had 10 for the Bulldogs in her first starting role of the season.

Truman shot 38.5% in the first half but just 28% in the second period including a 1-for-6 drought from outside.

The Bulldogs will be off until December 29th when they will step out of conference play for the final time with a road game against the University of Illinois-Springfield at 5:30 p.m. The next MIAA action will be January 3rd at Fort Hays State.
